The Booking Isn’t the End: How Chinese Travellers Keep Making Decisions After They Book
I booked my hotel in Manchester weeks ago.
I still haven't stopped looking.
I keep scrolling RedNote.
Someone posts a neighbourhood I hadn't considered.Someone else shares a hotel that looks even better.A friend sends me a restaurant, an exhibition or a day trip.
Suddenly, a decision I thought was finished is open again.
Turns out I'm not unusual.
Then I came across this chart from McKinsey and Skift.
AI use drops sharply at the booking stage, then comes roaring back afterwards. And more than half of US travellers surveyed said they had switched an already confirmed booking after finding a better option on social media.

This week, millions of Chinese travellers are getting ready to leave for Golden Week.
Flights booked. Hotels confirmed.
But many of them are probably still making decisions — on RedNote, on AI tools like Doubao and DeepSeek, on Trip.com, or simply in a group chat with friends.
The flight may be fixed, but almost everything around it can still move:
where to eat, what to see,how to spend the afternoon, sometimes even where to stay.
For a hotel, that's a reason to keep reminding guests why they chose you.
For a restaurant, shop or attraction, it's a chance to become what they discover next.
Maybe booking isn't the end of the journey.
Just the end of the first decision.
Have you ever changed your travel plans after booking? What made you switch?
